I did this session with Miss. C about 6 weeks ago and it was SO. MUCH. FUN. We got a room up in Bellevue, did some make up and hair, had a few drinks, and then took some pictures. Afterwards, Miss. C took me out with her girlfriends for dinner and drinks. We ended up having quite the night out… which is saying something for those who knew me in college (I was just a *little* on the wild side) and those who know me now (I have two small children and never get a chance to do anything fun.).

Boudoir is less about what you do show, and more about what you don’t show. And if you feel like “Wow, I can’t do that. I have no idea how to pose like that.” then you have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. Because neither does anyone else. That’s the fun of it. I make you look good. Plus we just have a ton of fun!

I have to admit that boudoir is hot right now. Every photographer wants to be a boudoir photographer, but not all do it well. Jen definitely does it well though and is always a constant inspiration to me. We bounce ideas and thoughts around, we are able to commiserate with one another when things are tough, and we laugh a lot… because a lot of our conversations are probably pretty inappropriate for polite company!

She did a series of headshots for me, plus she took some amazing photos of me with my little baby girl Julie, when we were out just spending the afternoon together. We grabbed some lunch down by Pike Place Market and then took a walk along the waterfront, stopped at Myrtle Edwards Park and then headed to the airport when she had to leave. All in all, a pretty good day.

The only problem? I’m scared of snakes. And on this shoot alone, we ran into quite a few. (And even found one slithering out of one of our bags…. gives me the shivers just thinking back on it!!)

Krystal was so cool and daring in doing an outdoor boudoir session. Her session date fell again, in the middle of the hot-hot-hot Great-2009-Seattle-Heat-Wave and it was about 100 degrees the afternoon we headed out to the property. Most of the time, I avoid shooting at high-noon (light just isn’t as good), but we had to make high-noon work on this particular day.

Now… and one who even just kind of knows me… knows I’m about as afraid so snakes as they come. Seriously petrified. If I see one, I usually jump a mile high, scream like a little girl, run in the opposite direction and literally shut down. Like not able to function kind of shut down.

While walking out to the shoot through the forest, we encountered not one, but 5 different snakes. It was absolutely terrifying!! I don’t know how I was able to function, but we got out there and continued with the session. I will say this though…. Krystal’s friend Amanda was with us (and she was about as afraid of snakes as I am) and luckily a monopod comes in handy for more than just holding lights and cameras. Amanda took that monopod and led us out of the forrest by making sure any possible snakes were scared away. Ugh. Makes my skin just crawl thinking about the entire thing….

It’s still a great locale and I plan on using the location again in the future. But let’s just hope for no more snakes!! Krystal choose to purchase an 8×8 album to display her photos – so these are some of the simple layouts we did for her album! It’s hard to tell on the white blog background, but each of these images are set with a digital white matting around it. Super clean and beautiful when it’s all done.

(Oh, and did I mention we got into the river?!? It was soooooooo much fun. And on that hot day… the cool water felt so refreshing!)
